Most modern iPhones contain a Personal Hotspot feature. This feature a WiFi access point through your phone that allows people who connect through it to access the web. It can also be used to play Minecraft PE locally with friends. To perform the actions included in this tutorial, you must have an iPhone capable of creating a hotspot. This works with multiple people, but I'd recommend no more than 4 or 5.

Hosting

  1. Enable Personal Hotspot in your phone's settings.

  2. Launch Minecraft PE.

  3. Make sure "Local Server Multiplayer" is enabled in Minecraft PE's settings.

  4. Create a world and enter it.

You will be notified when someone joins your hotspot in your notifications.

Joining

  1. Ask the host for their Personal Hotspot password.

  2. Go into settings and click on wifi. Look for the Host's hotspot and join it with the given password.

  3. Open Minecraft PE and click play. You should see a new box on your world list that looks like this.

  4. Click it, and you should be able to join the world with your friend.

Tips for Troubleshooting

  • Make sure everyone is running the correct version of Minecraft PE. Otherwise you may run into problems.

  • The host has to keep Minecraft PE open for everyone to be able to play.  Letting the host phone go to sleep my disconnect everyone.

  • Older devices that don't have multiple cores may not perform to well if the host has it set to infinite world.  If anyone has a device older than the iPhone 4s, iPod Touch 5g, iPad 2, or iPad Mini, you may want to generate an old world or use a superflat world so your friends can play with the best performance.

  • If you can't enable the personal hotspot on your iPhone, your device may be too old or may be limited by your carrier.

  • You must have a Cellular signal to enable Personal Hotspot.

  • This may cause a strain on your battery. Be sure to reduce your screen brightness or play in moderation.

As always, if anyone has any questions be sure to ask them and the comments and I'll try to help you to the best of my ability.

  2. It would be nice if you mentioned how Android can do the same too, just so the people who don't know this and aren't on an iDiot or apple device. On Android, Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot allows you to create your own Wi-Fi hotspot that uses your mobile network. On stock Android, it is found under Settings > More... > Tethering & mobile hotspot. All the settings you need are there. Settings location may be different on manufacturers' skins (HTC sence, Samsung's Touchwiz ect.).

  3. Corbin's the Android guy. He already made a tutorial on this using bluetooth tethering. http://www.poweredbyredstone.net/?p=2463

Also, I'm not going to write an article on something I know nothing about.

  6. Oh it must have been a slip of my fingers, not intentional at all, no thought went into it. Just the same amount of thought when someone buys an apple device.

  7. Like I said, Corbin is the Android guy. This article was written to aid iOS users in connecting with each other and playing on the go.

Also, please don't be insulting towards people who don't have the same opinions as you. (ex. iDiot)

  8. Apologies if I have offended any iPhone users, as I was attempting to make fun of the device and it's capabilities, not the owners of them. I simply wanted to point out that if somebody on android who was looking for exactly this, they wouldn't have anny idea whether or not they could do it on their device.
