Editorial: The Discouraging State of Minecraft PE Servers

There's a major problem in the MCPE server system.

Take a look at any server list, and there's no doubt you'll see tons of PvP and roleplay servers. This alone is not a problem, but when you go into any of these servers, you will see that many of these servers have the most terrible financial plan any server could ever have.  Not to mention how illegal their servers are.

A "Donation Info" page I found on a random MCPE server's website.
This is a message I found on a randomly chosen MCPE server's website.  The most disgusting part of server models like this is that they become pay to win at a certain point, and how abused these rules could potentially be. Imagine if Corbin gave anyone who donated $10 to the website the ability to ban any comment they want to in the comments. You'd probably be pretty mad that Corbin would be giving powerful administration tools to any power-hungry joker who has $10 to spare. The same mindset should be for these servers, too. Delicate administration tools like that should not go to the general public. They should go to people the server owner trusts.

Another major problem with servers like the one before, is that not only do their ranks provide an unfair advantage to anyone with money, but they also violate Minecraft's End User License Agreement. Mojang was pretty mad a little over a year ago at the financial plans on Minecraft PC servers, so they denounced the financial plans of these servers, but made exceptions to the EULA to allow servers to legally make money to keep themselves running. Many of these rules have been broken on Pocket Edition servers, and it is unknown whether these EULA rules count on Minecraft PE servers, because Mojang Support is clueless and it's almost impossible to get contact with Minecraft developers.

Since Mojang stepped in and started enforcing the rules for Minecraft PC servers, the server community has improved and flourished greatly, and I believe it's about time that they enforce the same rules for Pocket Edition servers.

  3. The thing is that people actually waste their money and ruin the server with this.
There's this guy I saw that had donated $56 for owner on one of the top servers and hacked it....

  4. Excellent article, but the cover photo doesn't quite apply to the topic.

  5. Not exactly sure what else I'd put. Putting a picture of a server list would end up pointing out specific servers, and the same goes for taking a picture inside of one of the servers. My goal was to highlight a problem with servers without pointing fingers at any particular server.

  6. It's a terrible game (or in this case, server) model that makes up a lot of games nowadays. In most cases, I'd rather pay up front, rather than feel like being forced to pay or be set back into a dull and tedious place with no chance for any fun with the game. Just an opinion.
