Minecraft and Mojang websites to be down January 18 in protest of SOPA

Notch has already expressed his feelings of the Stop Online Piracy Act, as well as on behalf of Mojang. The law, if passed in it's current form, will enable companies and the United States government to shut down any site on the internet that is violating copyright laws of any kind, as well as the servers hosting the websites. The act will undoubtedly cause more bad than good, and since a large majority of the world's internet servers are located in the United States it will effect the entire world. That's right, even the Sweeden-based company this blog keeps talking about.

In protest of the SOPA, Mojang is joining dozens of other companies and individuals and creating a blackout of their websites on January 18th, on purpose. The blackout of mojang.com and minecraft.net will be in protest, along with other sites (possibly even Wikipedia). If you are more interested in the actual bill than Mojang's actions, take a look here.
