Editorial: 5 things that need to be added to Minecraft Pocket Edition

After playing Minecraft Pocket Edition for a week, it's shows much promise. Since it is still not completed (in Alpha stage at the time of writing), there are a few additions that I think should make it to the next release. As a mobile developer, I know what sort of things would slow down a mobile phone, so redstone is out of the question for now. Stay tuned after the list for a little competition.

1. Beds
Seriously, beds are not added yet? In the desktop Minecraft, beds were added in Beta 1.3 (February 2011). I need to get some sleep!

2. Hunger bar and food
This will probably take longer to put in than beds, but still a worthy addition. Pigs should drop porkchops instead of nothing. Hunger bar should resemble and act like the desktop version.

3. Furnace
I harvested twenty blocks of iron ore to find out I could not cook them. Furnaces really need to be put in.

4. Less rare ores and caves
Unless it was on the side of a cliff, I could not find any reserve of coal. Please make ores more common, especially iron and coal. Also, caves need to be added, since they are not generated in the current builds of MC Pocket Edition.

5. More blocks
It won't take very much time to put in blocks already existing in the desktop counterpart. We need something besides wool to decorate with here!

So here's the challenge for you all: if you have Twitter, paste the link to this article in a tweet with @carlmanneh in it. For example: "@carlmenneh, please read this about MC Pocket!! http://goo.gl/2thWP" This way the lead developers of Minecraft Pocket Edition will see it and maybe add these things. We can all hope!
