Mojang spends a lot of time with their community, especially while trying to make decisions. Today they are turning to Reddit to ask the community how they should structure their API. They are having a very deep discussion on Reddit today if they should make their own plugin system from scratch, or modify an existing open source implementation.
"We have two main options here. We can roll our own, which we've done with Bukkit before. However, this is incredibly complicated, will take a lot of time to get right and will likely mess up somewhere. Classloader stuff in java is pure black magic, it's insanely difficult when it wants to be. The other option is, of course, to use an opensource solution already out there.
