Minecraft Multiplayer servers offline, Amazon is to blame

Update: All the login servers became operational again at about 8:30 US Eastern time today (about 30 mins after this was posted). Thanks @Donnaclus from Twitter!

If you are a die-hard Minecraft player, you know that when servers go down all Hell breaks loose. Minecraft servers are responsible for handling server logins, so when they are offline you can't play on servers. I was curious to see if they were down for me, and it certainly was (as seen above). Mojang claims the error is on Amazon's side (they host many of the servers) and are waiting for it to be fixed. The servers have been offline for about an hour now, and no news from Mojang or Amazon on when the servers will be online again.

  1. I'm a Moderator on the Minecraft Forums, and when Minecraft went down, a tonne of threads started pouring in. Some even feared that they had been hacked.
