Modpack Review: ApertureCraft

This is Modpack Review, where we take a look at popular modpacks for the Technic Launcher.

aperturecraftIt's been a really long time since we have reviewed Minecraft mods, so I figured we needed to start doing that again - but with a twist. The latest version of Technic Launcher, the tool used with the popular Tekkit mod, supports external mod packs. This means that people can put a few mods together in a zip file and open it in Technic, exactly like how Tekkit works. So I tried my hand in making one and put a few mods together to make ApertureCraft - a modpack made to recreate Portal in Minecraft. The modpack uses these mods:

  • Portal Gun v2 - This mod adds many new items and mobs to the game, most notably a dual portal gun. Beyond that it adds Turrets, Companion Cubes, Radios, Emancipation Grills, and much much more.

  • Modifed Portal Texture Pack - This 16x16 texture pack is a mix between Minecraft and Portal, and textures almost every block in Minecraft 1.4.7.

  • MinecraftForge - This is a mod that enables most of the features in the Portal Gun mod

Installing the ApertureCraft pack inside Technic Launcher is very easy. Open the lastest version of Technic Launcher, and select Vanilla from the menu on the top left. Underneath the login button click Options, and type http://poweredbyredstone.net/technic/aperturecraft.zip in the Custom ZIP box. Click the Clear Cache button, then OK, then Login. After Technic downloads minecraft.jar and all the other Minecraft files, it will download aperturecraft.zip and install it. Whenever you want to open ApertureCraft just click Vanilla!

  1. I'll make an update soon that will upgrade the textures from 16x16 to 32x32 and includes Not Enough Items. I wanted Too Many Items but the mod creator bans people from putting it in Mod packs :(

  6. Hello, I appreciate the pack you've put together, do you recommend an adventure map of some sort for use on this pack?

  7. I personally prefer TMI just because I've been using it since I was a wee little Minecrafter. Tekkit uses Not Enough Items since that mod is a little better at searching items. Overall they are 80% the same and it really doesn't matter.

  10. Hey, would you be able to put a link up for the tekkit download? or feed the beast.

  11. Absolutely! Here's the download for the Technic Launcher, which you use to login instead of the Minecraft launcher: http://www.technicpack.net/download/

  12. Did you make this pack? Because if you did you are violating what the developer said on the forum page for the portal gun mod. It is in his FAQ. Just warnining you.

  13. Hey just an idea, mabbe u could put Optifine in with this?

  14. The current builds of Forge act weird with Optifine, we will need to wait a couple of days for it to be fixed. But that's defiantly a priority :)
