Electronic Arts has been known to buy smaller companies for several years, but this is a bit of a jump. In a press release today, Executive chairmen Larry Probst said, "We think this is beneficial for Minecraft and for the Minecraft community. He went on to announce that Minecraft would be re-branded as SimCity 5, which promises new features like mob invasions and better performing multiplayer. The amount that Electronic Arts is paying for Mojang and it's games are rumored to be around 12 million US dollars. EA did not comment on the future of 0x10c, Cobalt, or Scrolls (in development games by Mojang) although it is likely they will be scrapped.
