Numerous Minecraft launchers have come and gone, but the official one from Mojang has changed little over the years. It still lets you enter your username and password and starts the game. But in the first snapshot of Minecraft 1.6, a new launcher is present. We will talk about the new launcher in a seperate article, so let's focus on the big changes.
First of all, Minecraft 1.6 will be the first version of Minecraft specifically compiled for Java 6 instead of the older Java 5. This means that if you have an older computer running an out-of-date Java, you really need to upgrade. But even then it might not run - because Minecraft 1.6 will also be using OpenGL 2.0 instead of OpenGL 1.3. To play Minecraft 1.6 you will need a graphics card that supports OpenGL 2.0. The good news is that yours probably does already - OpenGL 2 has been a standard since 2004.
Let's get back to new features in-game. Horses. That's right, those lovable creatures you have come to love from the Mo' Creatures mod has arrived in regular vanilla Minecraft. Also new are leashes, hay bales, and even carpets! See the source link below for more details and the download link.

ReplyDeleteJust so everyone is aware, mojang did not steal this from mocreatures. DrZhark and dinnerbone have teamed up to make the snapshot possible.
ReplyDeleteThere are pros and cons to horses... pros, you can get around more to explore, get away from mobs, etc. and cons, on the PvP servers all you're really going to see are diamond armored-players running around on horses killing players at extreme paces.
