Minecraft PE 0.7.4 for iPhone and Android to be released Monday, marks the end of PocketMine Realms

Screenshot_2013-06-21-15-02-03Today Johan, a Minecraft Pocket Edition developer at Mojang, tweeted "So 0.7.4 has passed through Amazon review way faster then we anticipated. Appstore/Google Play will be released on Monday." It's peculiar that the Amazon App Store got Minecraft PE 0.7.4 before other platforms. Also up for discussion is whether it was purposely accepted early by Amazon, or just an automated action.

A bit of bad news also came today from PocketMine, the leading dedicated server software for Minecraft Pocket Edition. They said today on the PocketMine Realms site, "A few days ago, Mojang (developers of Minecraft: PE) asked us to end our PocketMine Realms service. He offered the ability to connect to external servers on MCPE 0.7.4." They continued with, "From now on, this service will cease to work. All the data in the database will be deleted. We have set up a section in our PocketMine Forums to find and post servers, including Server Lists."

So there you have it. PocketMine Realms, a service that allowed anyone to connect to hundreds of Pocket Edition servers with no configuration (seen above), is dead. On the upside, it's now possible to connect to any server you would like without modifying Pocket Edition files!

UPDATE: PocketMine reached out to us saying, "Remember that PocketMine-MP will still be developed, and with full connection support now." So don't worry about MCPE servers going away anytime soon ;)

  4. I liked PocketMine Realms. Sad to see it go, but at least I will still be able to join other multiplayer servers!
