Minecraft PE Beta passes 80,000 members, fake APKs spreading online

Mojang's Minecraft PE beta program has become increasingly popular, with today marking over 80,000 active members of the beta test. As of now, there have been four builds of MCPE 0.9.0 available that have added smaller features and fixed bugs. Playing on the recent builds, it's becoming obvious that 0.9.0 is becoming more and more stable and complete. In fact, developer Johan said on Twitter the betas could be done by next week.

Unfortunately, those who have not purchased Minecraft PE on the Google Play Store are turning to downloading illegal APKs (Android app files) of the beta builds. Recently people have been sharing APKs of a '0.9.0 Build 5' which has yet to be released by Mojang. They usually share photoshopped screenshots (shown above) to prove they have it. Many of these APKs include malware or viruses that can not only harm your device, but also steal your private information.

As always, we warn our readers to never install applications outside the Google Play Store unless you are willing to face these issues should they arise. And never pirate any edition of Minecraft, show Mojang you care about their game by buying it.

  1. I'm an IOS user and I don't even have any of the betas ( because there aren't any :P) and I rely a lot on this website because I like to keep updated on what's been happening. Thanks Corbin for creating this website :). The thing that gets me down is that I read articles ( like the one above) and see that there are people who would go to extremes and photoshop or give out false images to people and fool them into thinking they have the update. It's not cool.

  2. I know right? It's almost like they're trying to ruin minecraft. It's quite dumb.

  3. It just goes to show that they think it's cool when it's not.

  4. Seriously, why bother?

  5. I shut down comments on some of my bug reports when people were posting links to the beta build of the app on the G+ community, and then the person giving the link would get mad, and others would get mad. Such a shame they feel so entitled to pirated apps they lash out at those who care about the developers handwork.

  6. You know you are supposed to report bugs on the bug tracker, not Google+.

  7. Yeah, Apple does lock stuff down in lots of ways, including huge betas like this one (they have support but, as said previously on this site you have to enter every single participate's Apple ID, making large betas like this near impossible.) But at least you guys don't have to deal with illegal APKs and the other crap on the Play store.

  8. Not so, you can report bugs via the beta page on G+, Twitter, and the bug tracker.

  9. it is because apple is horrible (I hate apple with extreme passion).

  10. iOS 8 has better beta testing

  11. Not by much, it only supports 1,000 beta testers.

  12. It's not,try to think about it before you say it.Apple is doing all this to ensure the update is safe for the device. Think about it :)
Well if you hate it that much then don't use it.

  13. My friend downloaded a fake 0.9.0 apk, and as you said, his whole device not only lagged, but he also keeps on seeing new apps on his device.

  14. I also think apple is horrible, but it has a higher security system to protect your device

  15. its so annoying my friend had to change all her info

  16. this is not an intentional insult to you or anyone else, this is just my opinion.

and I dont use apple devices very often.
apple bars customization to only background and app orginization, the app store blocks any apps that can change those things. the only way to free those things is to jailbreak your device (also not allowed). apple devices have home buttons instead of a small bar like android (my ipod doesnt have a working home button). another reason I hate apple is because I believe that their products are overpriced and not designed with any sort of advanced feature to acess your filesystem (thats right, no root acess for you ipod, iphone, or ipad(I am also aware of pc programs that let you acess application files)). android at least has google play that you can root your device and acess your file system. macs are great for artists, I am not an artist, I hate macs. with a mac you get minimal hardware choice, when I bought my alienware I could get different graphics cards, hard drives, more ram, different versions of windows, and even a blue ray cd player integrated into the computer. a mac will run well, until theres an issue, then its a nightmare to fix (sometimes).
on a windows pc you can just pop it open and dust it out and replace your melted graphics card after running call of duty ghosts for 5 days, on a mac you have to go to an apple store and have them fix it because macs now come with "tamper free screws" that is the dumbest thing for a computer. a mac will run well, windows will run well too if you arent an idiot who goes and downloads random junk.

tell me if you want more of an explanation.

  19. True,APKS mess up your device pretty badly.
Most of the idiots as you mentioned are most probably below 12 year olds(no offense)

  20. Dont forget the ones that use modded block launcher and a texturepack to make fake "proof" videos.

  21. Well, I've bought MCPE on iOS. Later, I bought Note 10.1 (IMO powerful Android tablet). And only on Android I could use BlockLauncher and betas. That's bad I have to buy game again. -.-
