How our advertisements work

Advertisements are a staple of the internet. It's how the majority of websites keep themselves alive. Unfortunately, many websites go overboard with advertisements ranging from pop-ups to auto-playing videos. Websites like those often force users to install browser extensions like AdBlock, shielding themselves from ads.

This leaves the websites that have minimal ads with a smaller and smaller userbase that is willing to put up with ads at all. Essentially, it's the one-person-ruining-it-for-everyone mentality, manifested in the digital world.

We use Google AdSense, one of the most widely-used ad platforms in existence. In case you haven't noticed, we only have two ad locations on the entire website - one on the sidebar where it says 'Advertisement' and the other below the main text on an article. They aren't placed in the middle of the article, or in pop-ups.

If I wanted to make as much money as possible, I would have smacked a giant animated advertisement after every paragraph. But I do try to make contact with advertisements as painless as possible. My goal is to make enough money to keep the website alive, not enough to live off of (even though that would be pretty awesome).

With that in mind, I would like to ask you to disable AdBlock for Powered by Redstone. Even if you have no intention of clicking on them, even just letting them load helps the website out. If you use AdBlock Plus, just click on the button in your toolbar and click 'Disable on poweredbyredstone.net'. Other Ad blockers might have different instructions.

I would also encourage you to disable AdBlock on other websites without intrusive ads, Reddit is a good example. And thanks for reading this far ;)

  1. You should have a tab for donations, so new readers will be able to find out how to donate easier.

  2. One of the reasons why I don't like ads because there is too many of them on a site, or they use something like flash. In your case, you still use color banners which I despise. I prefer text ads only, and even then the text colors have to match the site theme. If an ad distracts me from a site's content, I will block it. Sadly, that applies to this site as well.

  6. Just did the same for this site only. 'Cause the ads can't be as obtrusive as they can on other sites.
