Microsoft purchase of Mojang complete, don't freak out yet

Back on September 15th after a few days of rumors, Mojang announced it would be purchased by Microsoft for a hefty $2.5 billion. While some people began to freak out and make ridiculous claims about Minecraft dying, Microsoft re-assured the community they would not mess up our favorite game.

Today marks the completion of the purchase of Mojang. Phil Spencer, head of the Microsoft Studios division at Microsoft, posted this on Twitter:
It’s official, today we welcome Mojang to the Microsoft Studios family. We're excited for the possibilities ahead w/the Minecraft community.

Keep in mind, this doesn't mean whatever Mojang does from now on is dictated by Microsoft. They will still remain a (largely) independent company. Since Mojang has been (in the process of) purchased, a Windows Phone port of Minecraft PE was announced. Also Microsoft guaranteed that they will not be changing the rules for making money of Minecraft videos.

We will have to wait and see what big changes Microsoft has in store. See the source link below for the original tweet.

  2. Oh hallelujah. I have been pretty tense for the past 2 months, and now, we know that nothing bad will happen. I actually believe that this purchase will be a good thing, as Microsoft may send more experienced programmers to Mojang and could speed up update speed, and may add more per update as of before. Don't diss Microsoft, there is a good reason they have billions of dollars in store!
