Minecraft Pocket Edition makes top 10 paid apps of 2014 on iOS

Whenever you visit the top paid apps/games on iOS, Android, or Amazon, you are sure to see Minecraft Pocket Edition at (or near) the top. It's been continually one of the most popular paid games on mobile devices, but just how popular is it?

Earlier today, Apple shared some interesting data on popular apps and games for 2014. On iPhone/iPod Touch, Minecraft Pocket Edition ranked as the second most-downloaded paid app of 2014 on Apple's iOS platform, just behind 'Heads Up!'. On the iPad and iPad Mini devices, Minecraft PE was the #1 most-downloaded paid app.

Minecraft Pocket Edition is the most popular edition of Minecraft to date, having passed 21 million copies sold back in April (meaning it's likely much higher now). For context, Minecraft PC Edition is currently at 17.6 million copies sold.

  1. That means we have a total (not counting console editions) of 38.6 Million players on the PC and Pocket Edition versions alone. By my guesses, I would say that if I factored all the different editions of minecraft together, we would have at least 45 million copies sold, possibly going up into the 50s or even 60s. I did the math, and the minecraft population is about one one-hundred-and-fifty-fifth of the worlds population. That is one big number, considering the fact that 1/155th of 7 billion is one big number.

  3. I'm sorry, and maybe it's just me, but I don't see why anyone would buy "Heads Up". I've never even seen it on someone's phone. People are always talking about Minecraft, but as for "Heads Up"?

  12. […] Last week, Apple reported their most-downloaded games of 2014. And just as everyone expected, Minecraft was the #1 game on iPhone/iPod Touch and #2 game on iPad(s). But here’s something you might not have expected – it didn’t make the top five on Android. […]

  13. I was playing "Heads Up" with my friend once, and we couldn't figure out how to say if something was correct. Kinda sad.
