Minecraft Pocket Edition not in top games of 2014 on Android, Google reports

Last week, Apple reported their most-downloaded games of 2014. And just as everyone expected, Minecraft was the #1 game on iPhone/iPod Touch and #2 game on iPad(s). But here's something you might not have expected - it didn't make the top five on Android.

According to the official Android blog by Google, in an infographic reporting the most popular content on Google Play (Google's movies/music/apps platform), the five most downloaded games on Android were all freemium games.

The top five games on Android for 2014 were Candy Crush Saga, Don't Tap the White, Farm Heroes, Subway Surfers, and Floppy Bird (a clone of - you guessed it - flappy bird). All of which are freemium games, meaning they are free but include in-app purchases.

Keep in mind these statistics do not include Minecraft PE copies purchased from the Amazon App Store or Samsung's App Store on their devices, both of which Minecraft PE can also be purchased from. See the source link for the full infographic.
