Last month we reported that the Ministry of Family and Social Policies of Turkey, named Aile ve Sosyal Politikalar Bakanlığı in Turkish, was trying to ban Minecraft nation-wide. They cited violence, especially against women, as the reason it should be banned in the nation of Turkey. Hurriyet Daily News today reported that the Ministry has concluded it's investigation, and recommends Minecraft to be banned.
This time however, it seems they have different reasons for banning one of the least-offensive games in the entire game industry. “Although the game can be seen as encouraging creativity in children by letting them build houses, farmlands and bridges, mobs must be killed in order to protect these structures. In short, the game is based on violence,” the report claimed.
This is somewhat true, but I'm sure you all know what happens when a mob dies in Minecraft - they literally fall over and vanish in a puff of smoke. It can't get much more clean than that. Furthermore, the report became stranger by saying children may begin to confuse Minecraft with real life (aka the Tetris Effect).
The final decision to ban Minecraft nation-wide in Turkey will depend on the outcome of a future cout case, where the above evidence will be submitted. Minecraft has never been banned nation-wide before, and it's 'premiere' in Turkey isn't too crazy - the country has banned more than 67,000 websites as well as other media. Perhaps Microsoft or Mojang will step in, to backup the game's relatively clean content (and of course, to keep the sales of Minecraft in Turkey flowing). See the source link for all the details.

Ridiculous. How would ANYBODY get Minecraft confused with real-life? And only two normal over world mobs destroy blocks, endermen and creepers. And none of the mobs are really female...unless you count the enderdragon--that looks more like a flying lizard.
ReplyDeleteWow Turkey. It's a game.
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody else find this ridiculously funny? Because to me, this just seems like a massive joke.
ReplyDeleteThere are second graders on my school bus who will never talk about anything but Minecraft. I used to love Turkey, but now... Meh.
ReplyDeleteYou lot need to get over yourselves. OMG someone doesn't like your game? They're ridiculous and dumb. The reason is legit. It's WITHIN they're rights to do this. I
ReplyDeleteI'm there with you bro
ReplyDeleteI would say the same if they were banning Candy Crush. Okay, not really.
ReplyDeleteI am only against this because it is ridiculous. I do not even play Minecraft (with the exception of maybe once per month), but I still see this as overkill. Sure, ban servers or something. But this is too far.
Three years of riots, demonstrations, and mobs later...
ReplyDelete"Just kidding...we were joking."
*suddenly the crowd feels like idiots*
BECAUSE I HATE CANDY CRUSH.
ReplyDeleteThey should definitely ban CCS. And Clash of Clans.
minecraft is so violent! all of the blood, all of the violence towards women! just stick to gta V that's a real kids game.
ReplyDeleteI'm with u man
ReplyDeleteThis is so strange. I also find it hilarious.
ReplyDeleteNow that is real advice!
ReplyDeleteThey think Minecraft is violent but not cod or gta??? I'm confused.
ReplyDeleteYou actually think someone would care enough to riot? Huh. As if. I get it's a joke but still... Just kidding :P
ReplyDeleteOf course not...I wouldn't even riot if they were deleting Minecraft worldwide
ReplyDeleteThis is really funny :D idk how turkey thinks this is a violent game, they must just be a little coo-coo in the noggin. XD
ReplyDeletewow turkey :- / now you will ban stone paper scissors because are palms represent paper so it means cutting your hand with scissors which is very violent !
ReplyDeleteWoman, am I right?
ReplyDeleteWTH. HOW CAN YOU CALL MINECRAFT VIOLENT? IF YOU DONT LIKE VIOLENT GAMES, BAN GAMES LIKE GTA V DANG IT. And how can you confuse minecraft with real life? News Flash, Turkey, its pixely cubes. Geez.
