Minecraft 1.9 not coming out until next year

Were you hoping for some new combat action in Minecraft this holiday season? You might be in for a disapointment, because Minecraft 1.9 will not be released until sometime in 2016. Lead Minecraft developer, Jens, posted this on Twitter:

Mojang's decision makes sense, as the latest snapshots are still bug-ridden and need work before the game can be once again stable. Interestingly enough, this marks the first year for Minecraft without a major release - Minecraft 1.8 came out in September 2014.
