Minecraft Amiibo figures could actually happen

If you don't keep up with Nintendo much, you might be out of the loop about their 'Amiibo' figures. Nintendo introduced these small collectible figures last year, and since then have sold over 50 different figures. They can connect to compatible games and do anything from fight on your team to serve as an opponent that learns over time. If you're familiar with Disney Infinity or Skylanders, it's pretty much the same deal here.

There's been some talk recently about a possible Amiibo figure based on a Minecraft character, presumably Steve or Alex. It seems more likely now that Minecraft is actually on the Wii U, but there have been Amiibo characters created for popular chracters not on Nintendo playforms, such as Captain Falcon from the F-Zero game series.

On the Wii U Edition's announcement page on Microsoft's website, a fan asked if a Minecraft Amiibo will ever happen. They got this response:
I'm only on the Minecraft team so I honestly have no idea about those other games. We do know that there's a lot of demand for a Minecraft Amiibo- no idea if we'll get one. As for Alex and Steve making an appearance in other games, the studios that develop those games would need to reach out to us directly about it.

So that's a solid 'maybe' then? I certainly wouldn't discard the possibility - we all thought Minecraft was never coming to the Wii U, right?
