Minecraft now available on Gear VR

The virtual reality competition is mostly between the HTC Vive headset and the (slightly more popular) Oculus Rift. But there's a third player gaining popularity among more casual gamers - one that doesn't require an expensive gaming PC. And it's called the Samsung Gear VR.

The premise behind the Gear VR is simple - simply slide your Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge, Note5, S6 or S6 edge phone (doesn't work with any other phones) into the headset, and you can start playing VR games running off your phone. It's a really neat device, and they've been selling like hotcakes among Samsung phone owners with it's relatively cheap $99 pricetag.

In a suprise announcement, Mojang has just announced Minecraft is now available for the Gear VR. The company says that an Oculus Rift version of Minecraft is still on the way, but the Gear VR version can now be purchased from the Oculus Store. This is a seperate purchase from Pocket Edition, but is based on Pocket Edition and supports cross-play with Pocket Edition and Windows 10 Edition.

I unfortunately can't test it (I don't have a Samsung phone), but now that it's available, I'm sure gameplay footage will appear soon.
