Very rarely do we see news about MinecraftEdu, a specialized version of Minecraft designed for educational use in schools by Joel Levin. Today MinecraftEdu released a new development build titled 'The Big X-Mas Update." The update adds many features useful for classroom usage, such as a welcome message upon entering a MinecraftEdu server hosted by a teacher, online World Templates for teachers to share their classroom's worlds with other teachers, improved sorting for World Template world files, a Mod Manager for both clients and servers using Forge ModLoader as a back-end, support for configuring MinecraftEdu for proxied networks, and a number of bug fixes.

MinecraftEdu 1.6.4 Development Build 7 is marked as Development by the MinecraftEdu team, which means it's not recommended for use in classrooms quite yet. Normal users should continue using 1.6.4 Build 6 until all the bugs are ironed out. See the source link below for the blog post.
