MCPE 0.9.0 likely won't be released in Q1 2014

Back in October, Pocket Edition developer Johan said on Reddit that Minecraft Pocket Edition 0.9.0 would be planned for release in Q1 2014. That meant that 0.9.0 was planned for release in the first fiscal quarter 2014, which lasts from January 1st to March 31st. But with every passing day it looks like 0.9.0 won't meet that deadline.

Why do we think this? Well there are plenty of features for MCPE 0.9.0 that haven't been shown in development, for example custom skins and most of the new biomes. In addition, we would likely see several betas for Android around two weeks before release (which has yet to happen for 0.9.0). Despite their original release date timeframe has almost passed by, Mojang has yet to announce a more accurate release date.

We have changed our estimated release date to April - May 2014 (on the sidebar) to reflect the current development status of MCPE, and will continue to update it based on change in development pace. However, a later release would't be so bad. A later release date means Mojang has enough time to polish the release, which is important because it will most likely be the last alpha release (unless things change 1.0 will probably be the first beta). MCPE 0.9.0 will be the biggest update Pocket Edition has ever received, but it looks like it might take the longest.
