Every once and a while, one of these sites crops up promising something for your Minecraft account in exchange for your user name/password. This is something called 'Phishing', where websites or emails ask for your private information to later sell or give away. A new website, disguised as a Mojang Support page, claims to offer Minecon capes once you log into your Minecraft account. The page says, "You found our limited edition cape registration page! Congratulations, please login and we will credit you your well deserved cape!"

To most players, this would be an obvious fake since Minecon capes are only distributed to Minecon guests. However, this could easily fool inexperienced players into giving away their Minecraft accounts. Mojang Support (the real one!) has already said on Twitter, "We have received tweets reporting sites offering free Minecon capes. Please do not provide any information to those websites - it is a scam!"

The owner of the website removed all personal information from the website's WHOIS database, meaning it's difficult to track who made the site. It was registered using eNom, and it seems the owner is somewhere in Paraguay. So be on the lookout for the site, and please share this article to everyone you know who plays Minecraft so they won't be fooled as well!
