Earlier today, in celebration of 21 million downloads of Minecraft Pocket Edition, the developers of MCPE hosted a Q&A session on Twitch. They answered quite a few questions from both Reddit and the Twitch chat, and several of which you guys have been asking us as well. The entire video is about 40 minutes, and since nobody got time for dat (hehe) we compiled a list of all the important answers below.
- The inventory is currently being re-designed and should be changed in 0.9.0.
- Configuration for world generation, similar to world gen options on PC Edition, are coming to Pocket Edition (but with less options).
- The F3 screen on Minecraft that gives information about your position and world is not currently being worked on for MCPE.
- Hunger will eventually come to MCPE, but not in 0.9.0.
- Beds will not restore health starting in 0.9.0.
- Minecraft Pocket Edition betas will not be coming to iOS, even if you are jailbroken. The developers mentioned that compiling betas, even for Cydia, is too difficult and would take away time from actually developing the game.
- Music should be added in MCPE 1.0.
- Controller/keyboard and mouse support, "isn't coming anytime soon."
- Minecraft Pocket Edition's end goal will be a clone of PC Edition, as well as added 'exclusive' features to make up for the lack of mod support.
- Weather is likely coming in Minecraft Pocket Edition 1.1, and it will work slightly different from PC Edition.
- Minecraft Pocket Edition will likely never officially support external servers beyond adding them to the Play menu.
- Skins can be selected from your current Minecraft PC skin, uploading a skin, or from a Mojang-created Skin Pack (similar to consoles). They will be added in a minor release after 0.9.0, or in 1.0.
- Redstone and enchanting will be added either in 1.0 or 1.1, but they will not be in the same release (for example, redstone might be in 1.0 but that means enchanting would be in 1.1).
- Day/night cycles in creative will likely not be added in 0.9.0, possibly in 1.0.
- Mushroom biomes will be in 0.9.0.
- Strongholds, mooshrooms, may be added in 0.9.0.
- Infinite worlds in MCPE 0.9.0 will be much bigger in data size than the current 0.8.0 worlds.
- Horses, hostile mob eggs, will be added in an unamed future update.
In addition, a video will be uploaded by Mojang tomorrow showcasing some of Minecraft Pocket Edition 0.9.0. You can check out the recording of the live stream at the link below (it's also on YouTube but most of the videos have sound issues).
