It's clear a few changes are coming in Microsoft's ownership of Minecraft, and all signs point to good changes. Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox department at Microsoft, recently hinted at better support for Windows 8 and Windows Phone compatibility. After being asked, "would you promise to bring Minecraft to your own platforms/devices (Win8.1 Surface / WP8.1 L1520)?" by a Twitter user, he replied simply "Yes."
Getting Minecraft to work on the Surface tablet, which we assume the one being referred to is the x86 Surface Pro, would require touch controls to implemented into Minecraft PC Edition. The Surface Pro is already capable of running Minecraft PC, but only with the detachable keyboard/touchpad as seen in the picture above.
It was rumored before the acquisition that Minecraft PE could get ported to Windows Phone, and it might just become a reality. It's unknown if porting to Windows Phone would delay 0.10.0/0.11.0 development, it's possible it could be developed by an outside group of developers (similar to how the Fire TV port was developed).
All in all, it's certainly good news for those invested in the Windows eco-system and buisness as usual for current players. Now let's just hope the Windows version won't use this ;)
