Minecraft development finished until 2015

Minecraft 1.8 was released back in September as the biggest update for several months, which re-worked much of the game's internal code as well as adding new blocks, items, and mobs. A small bug-fix update was released last month, fixing a few client-side problems.

It's customary for Mojang to take a break from Minecraft development after a major update, and today Nathan Adams confirmed there will be no new develoment versions (snapshots) for Minecraft 1.9 until 2015:

Of course 2015 seems like a long way aways, but it's less than 30 days away now! Minecraft 1.9 is expected to have a few new major features, such as a new UI for command blocks, built-in shaders, a new cloud rendering system, and possibly partial implementation of the Mod API.

It's highly unlikely any new update for any edition of Minecraft will be released this year as well, with the last bug-fix updates for Minecraft PE 0.10 going out a few days ago. Tell us what you thought of this year in Minecraft in the comments :)
