The only major platforms Minecraft is not available currently are Nintendo's consoles - the Wii U and 3DS/New 3DS. While it's not clear why Minecraft hasn't come to those platforms (it's almost the perfect game for them), this leaves a major gap for indie developers to fill with their games.
We reported back in November that a somewhat-shady indie startup called 'Nexis Games' started developing a Minecraft clone called 'UCraft'. They attempted to fund the game's development through Kickstarter, only earning a little over half what they requested. As you may know, Kickstarter projects are not rewarded donations unless they reach their goal.
But despite getting no funding, Nexis Games is apparently nearly ready to release the game. WiiUNews reported about the progress of UCraft (poorly translated from German):
If you're expecting anything good from UCraft, you might want to reconsider. Nexis Games also recently released 'BrickBlast U' on the eShop, which got a 2/10 score from NintendoLife. It's difficult to say if UCraft will gain a following with Wii U players, or become the next Meme Run.

In a comparatively very short development time seems to have come UCraft now in a stadium where the developers are confident enough to submit the title to Nintendo. In 8 to 12 weeks it will appear in the American eShop Wii U.
