Minecraft devs working to make every Minecraft edition the same

Although exclusive features, like split-screen play on consoles or the new boats on Pocket Edition, may give owners of those games bragging rights - Mojang is looking to change that. Lead developer for Minecraft on PC and a developer for Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Jens Bergensten, wants to make all editions roughly the same. He tweeted this in reply to a user:

While some features of certain editions may not reach other platforms due to technical difficulties, for example infinite worlds to consoles, Mojang wants to make the experience about the same on all platforms. This is a good move for everyone, leading to less confusion about which editions have what items/blocks, while bringing previously-exclusive features to other platforms.

Now that Mojang is working on this, maybe 4J Studios will catch up with the console editions. See the source link for the original tweet.

  1. I wonder what that means language wise. Are they going to rewrite the PC version in the language of the consoles and if so what would that mean for the linuxmac versions. Also the modding API that they're planning, how would that fit

  2. I imagine they'll have to focus less on adding flashy things to PC edition and more on getting the core gameplay across all platforms to be the same.

  3. They won't rewrite the PC version anytime soon (it would take years for the current dev team), and still continue with the Mod API. They will just make all the features the same on the surface.

  4. Finally, but it would take years of coding, by then minecraft will go out of fashion

  5. I doubt this will ever happen. PC is so far ahead that they would have to double time PE and consoles.
