Minecraft movie officially confirmed, directed by Rob McElhenney

We first heard about a potential Minecraft movie in February 2014, when Notch said Mojang was working with Warner Bros. Then we heard almost nothing until December, when the director and several writers left the project over script concerns. Then a few days later, Warner Bros completely bailed on the project.

It seemed like the movie was dead, but Mojang just dropped a bomb on their blog - it's real, and Rob McElhenney is directing it. Unfortunately that's all that was announced, but it's still a huge deal. A Minecraft movie, like it or not, is actually happening.

Rob McElhenney is most famous creating It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a sitcom currently on it's 10th season. Hopefully we get more information about the cast soon, but for now that's about it.
