Guide: How to play Minecraft Windows 10 Edition with a DualShock 4 controller

Minecraft Windows 10 Edition is unique because you can play with a game controller, keyboard and mouse, or a touchscreen. Unfortunately controller support is limited to Microsoft's offerings - namely the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers.

Fortunately, there's a program called InputMapper that 'tricks' Windows into thinking a connected DualShock 4 controller is an Xbox controller. This means you can enjoy Windows 10 Edition with a DualShock 4 just as you would an Xbox controller. Here's how:

  1. Go here and download the latest InputMapper program. Once it's finished downloading, open the installer and follow the directions. Depending on your system, it may ask to download additional drivers for it to work.

  2. Open InputMapper and leave it open.

  3. Open the Windows settings app, go to Devices, and go to the Bluetooth tab. Make sure your Bluetooth connection is on.

  4. If you've used the controller with another PlayStation or computer, press the reset button with a paper clip or other object (it can be found on the bottom, below the L2 trigger).

  5. Hold down the PlayStation button and the SHARE button on the controller until the blue light starts rapidly flashing.

  6. You should see 'Wireless Controller' appear as a Bluetooth device in the Windows Settings. Click it, and click Pair. If it worked, the blue light on your controller should have turned to green.

  7. Go back to InputMapper, if you see the controller on the Home tab, it worked! Click on the InputMapper settings tab (it's a picture of a hammer and screwdriver), and check 'Start with Windows' and 'Start Minimized'.

  8. Minimize (not close InputMapper) when you're done.

Congratulations, you can now play Minecraft Windows 10 Edition with a DualShock 4! To power off the controller, press the PlayStation and OPTIONS buttons at the same time. To turn it back on, just push the PlayStation button.
