We previously reported that the director Shawn Levy, along with two writers, left the Minecraft movie project over concerns about the script. But today in a surprising move, it looks like Warner Bros has left the project entirely.
While details about why Shawn Levy left the project are somewhat clear, Warner Bros hasn't left a public statement about their reasons. Levy previously said the script reminded Mojang of the 1985 film The Groonies (a flm about a group of misfits setting out to find a pirate's ancient treasure), and rejected the current script. Perhaps the current script was about the main character hoping to find treasures in caves? It's anyone's guess, as hardly anything about the film has been shared.
It's hard to tell where the movie will go from here, perhaps another studio will pick it up or the movie will never come to fruition. Frankly a Minecraft movie will probably happen eventually, being one of the most-recognized video games of all time. See the original source below.
