Mojang reveals that Microsoft is helping Minecraft: PE development

When Microsoft bought Mojang and revealed they weren't going to change the way Mojang operated itself, we assumed the game development would continue to go on in-house. That doesn't seem to be the case, as Jens Bergensten revealed on Twitter today:

For those of you unaware, Redmond is where Microsoft's headquarters are located. It looks like Microsoft realizes that Minecraft: Pocket Edition is the real moneymaker at Mojang, and wants to help development along.

The addition of several new developers at Mojang has already helped add new features to PE 0.11.0, but it's unclear what Microsoft is doing to help the game's development. Perhaps they are simply bug-testing on more devices for the Android version, or doing all the work on the Windows Phone port. We reached out to Jens for a response, but haven't received an answer (yet).

Perhaps Microsoft is helping speed up Minecraft PE development to the point of the console and PC editions. We shall have to see.

  1. Hopefully they don't charge us extra money for skins or upgrades,
I really want them to work harder on MCPE so it can someday overtake console or even pc!
